My Bachelor Thesis
A heavy-oinking thesis design
This portfolio chapter presents the structural design and the general content of my bachelor thesis, which dealt with the effects of the humanization of animal figures on character design.
Created: February 2020
Client: University Project
Work: Concepting, Illustrating, Layouting, Data-Analyzing, Researching
I decided to split the documentation of my bachelor thesis into two different portfolio projects. HERE you can reach the 3D part of my work.
The Cover Design
My bachelor thesis with the title Anthropomorphisation in character designing animal figures is in summary a scientific investigation of anthropomorphic (humanised) animal figures. For the cover of my work I had the plan from the start to create an emblem, which visualizes this half-animal, half-human trait particularly well. Thus, I concentrated on the conception on the fusion of a human head with a pig's head in the shape of the Ying and Yang symbol, which exactly fits to the practical part of my work. During the implementation in Illustrator, the logo became more and more abstract over time and developed into a rather solid new symbol.
For the realization of the layout of my work in InDesign, I oriented myself in terms of color to my created anthropomorphism logo. It was especially important to me to create a style that is as simple as possible , which does not take away the seriousness of the work and which gives the texts, illustrations, sources and indexes a pleasant design framework, according to the motto form follows function.
Mockup PSDs created by lcd2020In addition, I have also created my own design for the disk that came with my bachelor thesis and thereby I collaborated with the website band-merch.de.
The Survey
According the process of researching the design of my work, I made an aesthetic analysis of my topic using my own
Google Docs Survey
and visualized the results documented in Excel using several infographics.
A total of 122 people took part in the survey, most of them young people, usually students with German roots, who for the most part called themselves animation fans and animal lovers.
The surveys showed a slight trend in favour of the more human characters. A more detailed analysis can be found in the complete work released for download below.
Design Methods
The project work in another course in my seventh semester called Design methods and models dealt with the design methods I used in my bachelor thesis and included
the creation of an infographics. I decided to to use Adobe XD
to create an interactive graphic, which can be accessed by the following link:
